My up-close floral paintings have always depicted flowers in their natural settings. I would never considered them still-lifes, as my visual point is to show the movement and connection of the floral form to its natural surroundings: the breeze, or the heaviness of the still air, the sunlight, or the cloud cover, the brightness or shadow of the surrounding land. I see flowers as both delicately sensuous and intensely vibrant subjects - simple forms that can encapsulate all of nature’s forces. My intent is to draw the viewer into the flower to the point where it becomes a world of its own. Click on these thumbnail images to see the full painting. Windy Peonies 2 (1st row - 4th image) is the only giclee addition I have available at this time. Orchid Aurora is the only artwork I currently have available as a limited edition lithograph.

I love the immediacy, intensity, and luminosity of the watercolor medium - I want to see light coming through or reflecting from the things I paint. The medium lends itself to my particular take on the organic floral image. The feeding of color and water into the paper, and the subsequent drying process,  creates wonderful edges, which are the main secret in depicting the depth or fullness of the organic forms.
